Grades 6-8

A team experience for middle school players. The emphasis of this program is to develop and build on the fundamental skills of passing, setting, attacking, serving, and individual defense, while incorporating offensive and defensive strategies for game play.

The team will compete in regional tournaments organized by the New England Region Volleyball Association (NERVA) of USA Volleyball.

Players will have practices on Sundays and will compete in 5 one-half day regional tournaments.

Season Dates: January 4 thru April 26.

• Practice shirt, & Sunday tournaments. Uniforms will be provided for use but MUST be returned at end of season.
• Team practices are expected begin on 1/2 and will be held on Sundays & 1 weeknight practice (T/Th TBD)
• Practices are 1-1/2 to 2 hrs. in length
• Practice locations: Torrington YMCA

Cost for facility members: $771 ($721 for the program plus a $50 uniform deposit which is refundable upon uniform return at the end of the season)

Cost for program members and general public: $797 ($747 for the program plus a $50 uniform deposit which is refundable upon uniform return at the end of the season)

March 1, 2026: $176 (facility member); $202.00 (program member and general public)

Additional Fees:

• USA Volleyball Membership: $60 (due by January 15, 2026) Register for USA Volleyball Membership  
• Player uniform Deposit: $50 (Part of the Payment Schedule) Refunded when uniform is returned at end of season.

At Registration: a non-refundable player evaluation Fee (that is applied to your total amount due)

Player Evaluations:

Players should try to attend both player evaluation sessions. Teams will be formed based on playing ability, age, position, athleticism and potential. Players not selected for travel teams will be placed on the practice squad. Teams will be formed following the 3rd Evaluation.

BUMP UP YOUR GAME

Volleyball instructional clinics at the Y give players the chance to improve their skills on the court. YMCA sports clinics are geared to help athletes develop sport-specific skills. YMCA-trained staff lead players in drills and games designed to develop the fundamental skills required for the sport. Learn the skills of passing, setting, spiking, and serving in a fun, supportive environment. Volleyball is a great sport to learn both collaboration and communication on and off the court. Youth volleyball at the Y is focused on providing physical activity, offering social interactions, and developing healthy living habits.

Continuous program that is drafted the first of every month.  One hour session per week.
