Rising Star Camp

PROMOTING STRONG CONFIDENT KIDS

Rising Star Camp is a structured program specifically designed to promote self-esteem, conflict resolution skills, positive interactions and success in its participants.

We use a reward system in which kids earn stickers with good choices/positive participation in camp activities. Campers who meet their daily goals are able to attend the weekly field trips.

Camp Hours: Monday – Friday 9 am to 4 pm

Our camp, located at Elks Pond in Torrington, relies on small groups and a dedicated, experienced staff to ensure success and safety. Boys and Girls ages 6-13 are placed in groups of six with one counselor and 30 total participants per session. Each child may attend for a maximum of two sessions during the summer due to space restrictions. Counselors are trained to meet campers’ individual needs.

Your child will create an individual goal each morning with their counselor. A period of time is provided at the end of the day where the counselor and child discuss the progress that was made towards their goal.

LEADER-IN-TRAINING (LIT) AGES 14-16

While the Leader- In- Training (LIT) campers may participate in some regular camp activities, much of their camp session is spent as a group participating in leadership development. The LIT program provides participants with the opportunity to develop strong leadership skills and self-confidence in the camp setting. These skills are not only applicable to camp but will foster leadership skills that will continue to develop throughout their lives. These skills will be utilized in their future schooling, workplace practices, and general well-being. If accepted, LIT campers will be under full scholarship.0

Our camp serves families from Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Hartland, New Hartford, Norfolk, Torrington, Winchester and Winsted.

We have received funding from: The Connecticut Elks Association, The United Way of Northwest Connecticut, Western CT Coalition, Individual and Business Donations, Rotary Club of Torrington and Winsted Areas, The Draper Foundation, Reiss Foundation, Mary H. Coutant and other generous supporters.
