VIEW

A diverse community that empowers kids to explore and thrive!

Camp MOE is a day camp for boys and girls 5 – 13 years old and for all children with and without special needs. Diversity and Respect are the backbone of Camp MOE. Located on over 165 acres of beautiful woods in Litchfield County with miles of trails, a private pond, and lots of wildlife, Camp MOE offers a summer of fun, challenges, friendship, learning and adventure.

Camp MOE is nestled away in the scenic northwest corner of Connecticut. We have over 160 acres of property for our camp programming, complete with fields, trails and our beautiful waterfront. Our campers learn patience, acceptance and challenge themselves to give each camper self-confidence and the chance to make lasting friendships. If you want your child to be the best version of themselves and set them up for success in their future, sign them up for a summer at Camp MOE!

About Us

Camp MOE is named in honor of Emil “Moe” Renzullo, a very special 12-year old boy who passed away in April 2010. Moe’s love of Camp, whether it was swimming, skateboarding, leading the camp in the morning cheer, or just walking hand in hand with his counselor, was evident to all involved at the Camp. Moe’s enthusiasm, love and caring ways for others taught everyone whose life he touched so much. Camp creates Memorable Outdoor Experiences in Litchfield County.

The mission of Camp MOE is to provide an ideal outdoor recreation environment where all campers with or without disabilities have the opportunity to develop friendships, leadership skills, responsibility for self and respect for others. Camp MOE empowers campers to look beyond their abilities and the abilities of others while supporting them to grow mentally, physically, and socially in a safe inclusive environment.

About Our Staff

Camp MOE’s staff is made up of high school students, college students, college graduates, teachers and outdoor enthusiasts. We look for staff that have strong understandings of inclusion and desire to give all children, regardless of their abilities, a rewarding Camp MOE experience. Our staff goes the extra mile to make our camp program exceptional. They are mature, dependable, trustworthy, and respectful.

A Day at Camp

Every day at Camp MOE is filled with adventures, challenges and fun through a variety of activities. All campers are placed in small groups determined by their age, abilities, development and the grade they will be entering in the fall. Rain or shine, we are at camp.

Campers in 1st and 2nd grade will experience swimming lessons, arts and crafts, music, gaga, nature and other various activities including community programs.

Campers entering 3rd through 7th grades in the fall will have the opportunity to choose the activities they participate in. These activities include arts and crafts, swimming, dance, sports, music, archery, boating, gaga and much more. Participants will be swim tested weekly.  Those determined to be non-swimmers will receive lessons during their free swim time.  Campers who pass testing will get free swim.

Campers entering 8th and 9th grade are awarded more responsibility through our mentorship program. This group participates in team building and helping the younger campers learn new games and activities.

Meals

A healthy lunch is offered free of charge to all campers 18 years of age and younger through EdAdvance. Three options are available on most days. Sun butter (not peanut butter) & jelly is offered daily.

Your child may elect to bring his/her own lunch to camp; however, we ask that you send it in a clearly marked brown paper bag. All lunches are stored in refrigeration per CT state regulation. Menus will be posted at the start of the camp season.

Before & After Care

Before & After Care is provided to families who need care beyond regular camp hours of 9 am to 4pm Monday through Friday for an additional fee. Parents can drop off as early as 7 am and may pick up as late as 6 pm.

Transportation

Bus transportation is available for families who are unable to drive their child to and from camp. Staff members ride the buses to and from camp in order to assure a safe and fun ride for each camper.

When picking up a camper (at camp or from the bus stop), whoever is approved by being listed on the camper’s transportation form must provide a photo ID of themselves, for every pick-up. This is for the safety of our campers.

VIEW

PROMOTING STRONG CONFIDENT KIDS

Rising Star Camp is a structured program specifically designed to promote self-esteem, conflict resolution skills, positive interactions and success in its participants.

We use a reward system in which kids earn stickers with good choices/positive participation in camp activities. Campers who meet their daily goals are able to attend the weekly field trips.

Our camp, located at Elks Pond in Torrington, relies on small groups and a dedicated, experienced staff to ensure success and safety. Boys and Girls ages 6-13 are placed in groups of six with one counselor and 30 total participants per session. Each child may attend for a maximum of two sessions during the summer due to space restrictions. Counselors are trained to meet campers’ individual needs.

Your child will create an individual goal each morning with their counselor. A period of time is provided at the end of the day where the counselor and child discuss the progress that was made towards their goal.

TORYMCA is a planned fun-filled summer for children ages 6-12 held at the Torrington YMCA.

The child’s day consists of core activities, child-chosen electives, daily outdoor play, and weekly off-site field trips or in-house special activities planned to help each child build confidence and try new things.

CORE ACTIVITIES

Arts & Crafts: Children will be able to find their inner artist and let imaginations flow.  We will learn new crafts and explore many different art forms.

Swimming: Each day the children will take a trip to our heated indoor pool with lifeguards present in addition to our Y staff.  We will also take trips to nearby destinations where we will swim in their picturesque lakes or relax on the beach.

Group Games and Physical Fitness: From court to field games, children will participate and interact each day in organized group activities to keep them moving and help build the skills needed to work as a team.

Children Readers: 30 minutes per day consisting of shared and independent reading.

Children Chosen Electives: Sports, art, dance, and drama are a few of the activities to choose from.

Healthy Eating: Through a partnership with Education Connection, we are once again pleased to offer lunch to children free of charge.
